The District & Sessions Court was established on 22 July 2000 and commenced operations in the existing court building of CJM & JMFC, Koppal, as per G.O. No. LAW 18 LCE 97(PF) dated 19-4-2000. Following a strike and demand by members of the Bar Association in Koppal, Gangavathi, Kushtagi & Yelburga, the District & Sessions Court was established and began functioning in the existing building. Due to insufficient space for all staff members, construction of the first stage of the first floor of the existing building in Koppal was requested. The Hon’ble High Court, Bangalore, was approached for plans and estimates, as per the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka LCBS, 58/98 dated 19 June 2001.
After securing plans and estimates from the PWD authorities, the office submitted a request through the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka vide office letter No. 1028/01 dated 17 July 2001. Subsequently, administrative approval for the construction of the first stage of the first floor was sought from the government, which was sanctioned under order no. LAW 265 WCE 2001 dated 13 June 2002, released funds of Rs. 50,00,000/- under a centrally sponsored scheme.
The building was constructed by PWD authorities and handed over to the District & Sessions Judge, Koppal, on 7 August 2003 under letter No. 18/38-2000 dated 7 February 2003, with the court informing the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka. Presently, the District & Sessions Court operates in the first stage building of the first floor in the existing premises, providing adequate accommodation for court halls, judges’ chambers, and staff rooms. Additionally, there is space available for the functioning of FTC-I, Koppal.
